There are so many reasons why you should choose adoption vs purchasing a dog. We could provide a complete list of reasons, however, in our opinion the most important reason to adopt is that you will be saving a life. For every life saved there is a new beginning, a chance to live, be loved, protected and SAFE.
While we understand that breeders do exist for those who have breed specific needs. It is important to be aware that each year, approximately 6.5 million pets enter animal shelters nationwide. An average of 1.5 million of those animals are unfortunately euthanized. Animal shelters in every state are in crisis numbers and these numbers are on the rise. With your help this crisis can work towards resolve.
Having a dog as a part of your family has been scientifically proven to significantly reduce stress levels and improve blood pressure! No human being can offer the unconditional love and companionship of having a dog.

After your application has been submitted, it will be assigned to an application team member. This team member will contact you to confirm that we have received the application and that we are processing the application for review. You can locate our adoption application here. (Please make this a clickable link that leads to the application.
Your application will be under review by our application team and PB board. This review process includes a reference check, veterinary check, proof of property ownership verification or landlord approval letter. Please be advised that we consider your history and a previous OR current pet owner as it refers to the specific dog that you applied for.
We will evaluate whether the dog that you have chosen will be a good fit for you and your family dynamic and if it meets your current needs. If we feel that another dog may be a better fit for you and your home, we will make those recommendations to accordingly. The goal is to place the best dog in an environment that is set up for success for all involved!
The next step is the meet and greet process. This is the part that we enjoy the most! You will have the opportunity to meet your potential new dog to see if you would like to continue the process and move forward. If you currently have dogs or pets within the home, we think its best to allow your other pets to remain at home for the first introduction to the family in an effort to reduce stress for all parties. New dog introductions should be completed carefully, in a neutral supervised environment that is comfortable for everyone.
Once your application has been approved, the next step is a home visit. Please keep in mind that your home DOES NOT have to be spotless. It’s okay…Your home should look lived in! We are not the “cleanliness police” and we will not arrive with our white gloves on checking for dust! You should always feel comfortable in your own space and we just here to want to ensure that you are prepared for the new addition to your family and that it will be a safe environment for your new dog to live and thrive in.
Once your home check has been approved and you are ready to welcome your new family member, the next step is to start the foster-to-adopt process. At this point, you will essentially be fostering the dog for PB for a period of time. This allows you and your dog and opportunity to get acquainted and hopefully form a bond. Its also a chance to see if your new dog is right for your family. PB will provide food, preventatives and any other required medications needed during the FTA time. There is a $250 adoption fee applied at the start of the FTA process. However, if for any reason during that trial period, you feel like your potential new dog is not a good fit for your home, the dog will be returned to PB and your adoption fee will be 100% refundable. FTA will typically last around two to three-weeks for adult dogs; for puppies, the FTA process will last until they are old enough to be spayed or neutered (around six months old unless otherwise identified).
