Here are a few easy tips for keeping your Pitbull healthy:
- Diet
Diet is extemeley important for Bully Breed dogs. Provide your Pitbull with quality food and enough water every day.
- Exercise
- Pitbulls can be very energetic dogs that may sometimes need a bit of exercise in an effort to maintain muscle tone and prevent obesity. Most enjoy walking and playing with their owners and the owners children. Make this a part of their daily routine.
- Grooming
Brush their teeth at twice a week if possible and include weekly coat brushing. PB’s enjoy the brushing motion as it allows for a calming activity.
- Training (This is very important)
Early obedience and socialization are an important part of your Pitbulls activities and routine.
Keep in mind that appropriate training can prevent aggressive behaviors.
- Vet Visits/Vaccinations
Always stay on task with your Pitbull’s vaccination schedule. This could prevent future health
issues. Keeping up with regularly scheduled Veterinary visits will help your PB stay healthy. Talk
to your provider regarding the best approach for regular wellness examinations, heartworm
prevention and suggested bloodwork.
- Play groups
Last but surely not least…Scheduled Play! Pitbulls can often be happier around dogs they are familiar with. If you don’t have other dogs in your home that are playful, consider finding/creating a social circle for your PB, such as a play groups. Participating in a play group helps increase your PB’s social skills, and learn how to communicate with other dogs. Play groups are confidence building, interacting with other dogs can help dogs build confidence.
